Why convert JPG to PNG
JPG discards data to stay small and does not keep transparency. PNG keeps sharp edges and an alpha channel. Convert when you need a sticker-like cutout or UI chrome. The PNG will often be larger than the JPG. That is expected.
Converting a photograph to PNG rarely improves quality. You cannot restore what JPG already threw away. For photos that must stay small, keep JPG or use WebP.
